Usually I run around town with my green drink in tow and I encounter a lot of strange stares and a lot of questions. When I explain how yummy the drink is and how good it is for you I get asked for recipes all the time.
My latest and greatest recipe is the Frozen Green Berry Mohito made with fresh mint from my garden.. Anyone can grow mint because it basically takes care of itself when planted and grows like crazy. Buy a mint plant from your local nursery or even local supermarket.
Green Berry Mohito
**This recipe can be used with or without alcohol**
2 cups of fresh spinach
2 sweet red apples (any variety available)
1 tsp honey (optional)
2 cups water
3/4 cup frozen strawberries
3/4 cup frozen red rasberries
a handful of fresh mint
2 tsp of raw maca powder (optional)
Why is Maca Powder so special?
Because Maca Powder is an adaptogen it is able to identify ‘hotspots’ of stress or weakness in the body and focus its healing properties on assisting these areas.
This is a nutrient packed food that contains an array of minerals, essential amino acids, vitamins and enzymes.
Maca Powder also contains over 55 different active phytochemicals including hormonal precursors and sterols. These phytochemicals are part of the reason why people taking raw Maca Powder experience increased energy levels and even feel happier.
Maca Powder Benefits
Maca Powder is able to contribute to overall well-being and provide the body with over 20 different fatty acids, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin B12 and B1 & B2, vitamin C as well as many other vitamins and minerals.
It can support the nervous system, digestive system, reproductive system and help to reduce adrenal stress to bring our bodies back in to balance.
Its been well publicised that Maca Powder can help to improve libido and fertility as well as stamina!
Its also used by bodybuilders who want a natural alternative to anabolic steroids due to the high levels of naturally occurring plant sterols.
raw maca can be bought at www.livesuperfoods.com
I use the health master by Montel Williams. http://www.myhealthmaster.com/ I have had this emulsifier for over 2 years and if you have a problem within one year they replace it for FREE.. You can make everything and anything in this blender due to the strong motor. The reason I like this blender better than a juicer is because it keeps all the fiber in!

October 25, 2011 Getting rid of toxins with a little help from twisting poses and delicious green drinks infused with Kale
It is almost November with the last glimmer of Indian Summer almost behind us. I am already feeling sluggish and tired from the change in season and all that it brings with it.. Dark mornings and early sunsets came by way too soon. Through the years I have found comfort in my yoga practice during these transitional seasonal changes. My teachers have been incorporating many twisting and standing poses into our practice. Nothing feels better than getting an internal massage created from the body twisting releasing stress and toxins.
With the help of my Health Master super blender I have created a yummy green goddess Kale drink full of delicious fruits.. Trust me it is addicting in a good way..
Green Goddess Kale Smoothie:
2 cups of fresh Kale
1 large apple ( any sweet apple will do)
a handful of beautiful red strawberries
1 gorgeous yellow lemon (take the skin off but leave a little of the rind it really sparks a great lemon flavor while drinking)
about 1 1/2 of water in the blender and then add everything in WITH THE SKIN ON! You get tons of added fiber from the skins of these fruits.
Blend everything together on high, shake well and serve cold. Enjoy.. you will crave it , the smoothie is so yummy and it is so good for you..
I use fruit cleaner from EAT CLEANER www.eatcleaner.com. I have been using it for about 2 years and my fruits and vegetable look and taste better as well as being safe for my family to consume.
Here is some information on why the ingredients in this delish drink are so good for you.
The beautiful leaves of the kale plant provide an earthy flavor and more nutritional value for fewer calories than almost any other food around. Although it can be found in markets throughout the year, it is in season from the middle of winter through the beginning of spring when it has a sweeter taste and is more widely available.
Kale is a leafy green vegetable that belongs to the Brassica family, a group of vegetables including cabbage, collards, and Brussels sprouts that have gained recent widespread attention due to their health-promoting, sulfur-containing phytonutrients. It is easy to grow and can grow in colder temperatures where a light frost will produce especially sweet kale leaves. There are several varieties of kale; these include curly kale, ornamental kale, and dinosaur (or Lacinato or Tuscan) kale, all of which differ in taste, texture, and appearance. The scientific name for kale is Brassica oleracea.
Leafy green vegetables like poke, spinach and kale are excellent for women facing menopause for several reasons. The Cleveland Clinic explains that they have iron, which helps maintain adequate energy levels. These vegetables also have fiber and important antioxidants. Leafy green vegetables also contain calcium, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, which helps to strengthen bones during menopause.
What’s so nutritionally good about strawberries?
Strawberries contain a range of nutrients, with vitamin C heading the group. They also contain significant levels of phytonutrients and antioxidants, which fight free radicals. These antioxidant properties are believed to be linked to what makes the strawberry bright red.
Benefits of Lemon
Lemon act as blood purifier and improves the body’s ability to get rid of toxins.
Lemon fruit is excellent in fighting disease that’s related to infection.
Drinking lemon juice is useful for people with heart problem – because of its high potassium content.
Benefits of Apples
Apple cleans teeth and strengthens gum
Will make the cholesterol level lower
Detoxify the body and has an antiviral property
Apple will also prevent constipation because it helps digestion
One large apple supplies almost 30% of minimum amount of fiber that should be consumed daily.
Bananas are one of our best sources of potassium, an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure and heart function. Since the average banana contains a whopping 467 mg of potassium and only 1 mg of sodium, a banana a day may help to prevent high blood pressure and protect against atherosclerosis.
The effectiveness of potassium-rich foods such as bananas in lowering blood pressure has been demonstrated by a number of studies. For example, researchers tracked over 40,000 American male health professionals over four years to determine the effects of diet on blood pressure. Men who ate diets higher in potassium-rich foods, as well as foods high in magnesium and cereal fiber, had a substantially reduced risk of stroke.

The lord Shiva is well known as his role The King Dancer or in Sanskrit Nataraja. in his hands he holds a drum and each beat signifies the death and rebirth of another age. Shiva dances to his own music within a circle of flame called samsara. samsara is the cyclical pattern in the constant repetition of birth, life and death. while this familiar repetition can be comforting some people feel that it is inhibiting as well.
In order to dance like Shiva we must be free of inhibitions. Freedom is being able to stray off the weathered well known path and venture onto the unchartered waters and embracing the unknown. in this story Shiva creates the room for us to make positive abundant choices and allows us to let go of fear.
dancers pose or Natarajasana allows us to experience the physicality that can produce fear in our bodies. It is said that we store fear in our hearts.. When you open your heart in a backbend or any other pose you are releasing the fear held in your heart and you are opening up yourself to all the lovely possibilities that come with an beautiful open heart. if we can find the graceful rhythm that comes from balance we will eventuallybe liberated in our bodies and in our minds.
Standing poses require abdominal strength as well as really being present in your practice.. Many people new to yoga have a fear of standing poses .
Truth be told depending on my mood or level of balance even after 6 years I can still wobble and fall out of my pose. The important thing is to fall down gracefully and get right back up.. This is true of everyday challenges in life. How many times have you attempted a task and shy away from completing something due to just enough fear in your head? I think it happens to everyone from time to time.
In a standing pose if you fall over what will happen? Since yoga practice is a personal exploration of one’s self no one is looking at you at all! The best part of being immersed in a yoga practice is that the time on the mat is yours and yours alone.
Standing poses tone and activate the torso, back, pelvis and abdominal organs, messaging the organs located there and increasing blood flow. Standing poses also invigorate the adrenal glands which produce hormones that help us tolerate many of the stresses of life. Both Extended Triangle Pose and Intense Side Stretch Pose also help in relieving menstrual disorders.
The benefits of standing poses are plentiful.
What standing poses are your favorites?
Be open.. Be present.. Be balanced.. Be free
