June 6, 2010 A magnificent morning.. Embracing nature and yoga with Jillian Pransky
magnificent morning with Jillian Pransky
On a beautiful morning in June a group of yogis came together to embrace the beauty of yoga and nature in the magnificent garden of the Van Vleck estate in Montclair New Jersey. I have passed this street about a hundred times never thinking about what lay behind the iron gates. Well now I know that six acres of absolute beauty was just waiting for me to discover.
Press your feet firmly into the beautiful earth and leave your footprint.
We began our two hour yoga and wellness retreat led by Jillian Pransky by getting firmly connected with our body breath and the earth while taking in our magnificent surroundings. Jillian encouraged us to lay on our backs and drink in the beautiful sky, delicious faint breeze and the moments of stillness we were so lucky to embrace.
Slowly we began our practice and allowed our bodies and mind to enjoy the yoking or the yoga of our bodies mind and spirit. We flowed through the asanas with gentle intention to restore balance to ourselves as we connected with nature. We bloom up like lotus flowers with their roots deeply planted in the earth. We are one with nature. Every so often a beautiful cleansing gust of wind would swirl around us as a gentle reminder to enjoy the sheer beauty of the moment we were experiencing.
“We take the shape of tree, the fish, the warrior, the turtle and the sage so that we can begin to understand their essential nature. We can literally feel the wisdom of the sage and the stability of the tree. We feel the power of the warrior and the steadfastness of the turtle. As a result we experience ourselves as more deeply connected with all of life around us”. Taken from Myths of the Asanas
Jillian quietly reminded us that yogis believe that the sun nourishes us as we are one with the bright light as well as all the nature surrounding us. We help to create our own bright light from within by connecting our beautiful breath with our bodies helping to create larger connection with the space and people around us.
After a lovely meditative stroll through the garden we came to the end of our practice for a restful sivasana.
What I took from this morning was to remember to keep exploring.. To remember to breathe and drink in the beauty of my surroundings and to revel in just loving the moment in which I am in.
Be grounded.. Be empowered.. Be radiant.. Be present..
