It is almost November with the last glimmer of Indian Summer almost behind us. I am already feeling sluggish and tired from the change in season and all that it brings with it.. Dark mornings and early sunsets came by way too soon.  Through the years I have found comfort in my yoga practice during these transitional seasonal changes.  My teachers have been incorporating many twisting and standing poses into our practice.  Nothing feels better than getting an internal massage created from the body twisting releasing stress and toxins.

With the help of my Health Master super blender I have created a yummy green goddess Kale drink full of delicious fruits.. Trust me it is addicting in a good way..

Green Goddess Kale Smoothie:

2 cups of fresh Kale

1 large apple ( any sweet apple will do)

a handful of beautiful red strawberries

1 banana

1 gorgeous yellow lemon (take the skin off but leave a little of the rind it really sparks a great lemon flavor while drinking)

about 1 1/2 of water in the blender and then add everything in WITH THE SKIN ON!  You get tons of added fiber from the skins of these fruits.

Blend everything together on high, shake well and serve cold. Enjoy.. you will crave it , the smoothie is so yummy and it is so good for you..

I use fruit cleaner from EAT CLEANER www.eatcleaner.com I have been using it for about 2 years and my fruits and vegetable look and taste better as well as being safe for my family to consume.

Here is some information on why the ingredients in this delish drink are so good for you.

The beautiful leaves of the kale plant provide an earthy flavor and more nutritional value for fewer calories than almost any other food around. Although it can be found in markets throughout the year, it is in season from the middle of winter through the beginning of spring when it has a sweeter taste and is more widely available.

Kale is a leafy green vegetable that belongs to the Brassica family, a group of vegetables including cabbage, collards, and Brussels sprouts that have gained recent widespread attention due to their health-promoting, sulfur-containing phytonutrients. It is easy to grow and can grow in colder temperatures where a light frost will produce especially sweet kale leaves. There are several varieties of kale; these include curly kale, ornamental kale, and dinosaur (or Lacinato or Tuscan) kale, all of which differ in taste, texture, and appearance. The scientific name for kale is Brassica oleracea.

All Hail for Kale

Leafy green vegetables like poke, spinach and kale are excellent for women facing menopause for several reasons. The Cleveland Clinic explains that they have iron, which helps maintain adequate energy levels. These vegetables also have fiber and important antioxidants. Leafy green vegetables also contain calcium, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, which helps to strengthen bones during menopause.

What’s so nutritionally good about strawberries?
Strawberries contain a range of nutrients, with vitamin C heading the group. They also contain significant levels of phytonutrients and antioxidants, which fight free radicals. These antioxidant properties are believed to be linked to what makes the strawberry bright red.

Benefits of Lemon

Lemon act as blood purifier and improves the body’s ability to get rid of toxins.

Lemon fruit is excellent in fighting disease that’s related to infection.

Drinking lemon juice is useful for people with heart problem – because of its high potassium content.

Benefits of Apples

Apple cleans teeth and strengthens gum

Will make the cholesterol level lower

Detoxify the body and has an antiviral property

Apple will also prevent constipation because it helps digestion

One large apple supplies almost 30% of minimum amount of fiber that should be consumed daily.

Bananas are one of our best sources of potassium, an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure and heart function. Since the average banana contains a whopping 467 mg of potassium and only 1 mg of sodium, a banana a day may help to prevent high blood pressure and protect against atherosclerosis.

The effectiveness of potassium-rich foods such as bananas in lowering blood pressure has been demonstrated by a number of studies. For example, researchers tracked over 40,000 American male health professionals over four years to determine the effects of diet on blood pressure. Men who ate diets higher in potassium-rich foods, as well as foods high in magnesium and cereal fiber, had a substantially reduced risk of stroke.

founder of Newark Yoga Movement

Debby Kaminsky.. founder Newark Yoga Movement

Debby teaches vinyasa flow, in particular prana flow, “an energetic, creative, full-spectrum approach to embodying the flow of yoga cultivated by Shiva Rea and the Global Vinyasa Collective of Teachers.”  This transformational flow truly links the breath together with each movement and also helps to get prana (energy) flowing within yourself.  This yoga feels so good and is so beneficial.  Sometimes you sweat profusely.  Other times you are so “blissed out” that you forget where you are.  Most times, you get both of these benefits.

For years, I was a dedicated ashtangi and have a warm spot in my heart for the form and an endless amount of respect and gratitude for all my teachers who were such wonderful guides and inspirations.  As of December 2008, I stopped teaching led ashtanga classes.  Journeying along through the kramas of life, had me evaluating the yoga sadhana that was right for me.

I like to embody what I teach so in order to remain an authentic, true guide to my students, I put my ashtanga class into a wonderful savasana (rest).  I continue to find joy in teaching my yearly ashtanga workshop because I like to share with students how to get into and out of 70 asanas (poses) safely and with a smile and letting these students decide to take what they learn to another yoga class and/or an ashtanga class.

I genuinely enjoying sharing and teaching the gift of yoga to all people from my contemporaries which depending on the day can be little kids, teens, young adults, or hip and happening regular adults and veterans. Net, is I teach anybody who is open to receiving yoga.  Yoga benefits everyone! My public classes  and workshops are geared primarily for adults.

My kids teaching experience ranges with thousands of K-12th grade through private instruction and at in school and after school programs and teen classes at yoga centers.  Further, I have worked with kids K-18 years having behavioral issues.

Finally, I am excited to be working with several schools in Newark including, Newark Public Schools, TEAM Academy and St. Philip’s Academy to introduce yoga to their children through the founding of  Newark Yoga Movement in Giving Back.

Taking its cue from a harmonious way of living, the kitchen style is Pacific Rim merged with local and Asian cuisine, primary cooking local and organic seafood, chicken and vegan protein alternatives as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. The menu options includes tropical flavors like coconut, banana, blackberry, tiquisque, tamarind and aromas of fresh mint, dill, ginger, cilantro and tarragon, among others.
The graceful simplicity of earth tones and crisp whites creates rooms that are rooted in nature and beach life at the Harmony.
All 24 accommodations reside on a path that meanders through a tropical garden overflowing with native vegetation. And the ears do not lie-that is the sound of waves. The path ends nearby at the warm, inviting Pacific Ocean on Playa Guiones, Nosara.

All about Sara Little:

Yoga found Sara years ago, in a very unconventional way: while living and working abroad in Italy, a very enlightened friend introduced Sara to Virabhadrasana II (Warrior II) on a Tuscan beach. The strength of that simple pose was empowering, and the concentration and steadiness required to hold it was deeply humbling. A lifelong runner and athlete who has always curiously pursued that juncture of the body and spirit, she was instantly enamored with yoga.

Sara returned to the U.S. to finish her degrees in Journalism and Italian at Syracuse University, eventually finding herself in a regular yoga practice. When she finally settled in New York years ago, Sara became certified to teach through YogaWorks under senior teachers Chrissy Carter and Jodie Rufty. A wanderlust traveler, she has practiced and taught in studios all around the world, from San Francisco to Costa Rica to India.

Sara teaches vinyasa yoga – a flowing, powerful, breath-centered practice – in open classes and private sessions. She practices Mysore Ashtanga daily with Eddie Stern, and continues to deepen her knowledge by studying Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra.

Her vision is to make yoga accessible and enjoyable. To practice yoga is to transform your relationship with awareness and observe the world with more openness. As Judith Lasater says in Living Your Yoga, “practice, then, can be understood as a willingness to return to the reality  of this very moment, that is, to observe with dispassion and clarity exactly what is—right now.”

Sara is also a freelance writer and is a New York contributor for ecofabulous.com and has written for Yoga Journal and The American.

“I had the pleasure of spending a week in Italy with Sara Little and her husband Michael last summer.  It was the highlight of my summer and my year practicing with Sara.. Her open heart radiates outward by way of her gentle way and beautiful smile that she shared with all of us on the retreat.. Going on a retreat with Sara is well worth it and amazing!  the private session she offers is not to be missed.  The whole retreat is thoughtfully prepared to ensure a lovely time together to practice yoga and to enjoy the beauty of the place you are in.  She is gracious and giving!  I can ‘t wait to go on retreat with Sara again.. Don’t miss this opportunity.”
